Financial circumstances can change over time, which is why regular reviews can be an important part of staying on top of your finances.

Here are three areas that may be worth checking:

1. Pension Contributions
Are your current contribution levels still appropriate for your circumstances and long-term goals? Even small changes over time can have an impact on retirement planning.

2. Beneficiary Nominations
Have you reviewed who you've nominated to receive your pension benefits? Life events such as marriage, divorce, having children or changes in family circumstances may mean your existing nominations no longer reflect your wishes.

3. Protection Arrangements
When was the last time you reviewed any life insurance, critical illness cover or income protection policies you may have? Changes in employment, income, family commitments or financial responsibilities could affect your protection needs.

Taking time to review these areas periodically can help ensure your financial arrangements remain aligned with your current circumstances.

If you would like to discuss your existing arrangements or have any questions, please get in touch.

When it comes to investing, potential returns are only part of the picture.

Every investment involves a balance between risk and reward. While higher-risk investments may offer greater potential returns, they also carry greater uncertainty and the possibility of loss.

Understanding your goals, investment timeframe and financial circumstances can help you make informed decisions about the level of risk you are comfortable taking.

The value of investments can go down as well as up, and you may get back less than you invest.

Many people focus on their salary, pension contributions and day-to-day finances, but some valuable tax allowances can be overlooked.

In this post, I highlight five allowances that may be worth reviewing:

• ISA Allowance
• Capital Gains Tax Annual Exemption
• Dividend Allowance
• Personal Savings Allowance
• Marriage Allowance

Understanding which allowances may apply to you can form part of effective financial planning and help ensure opportunities are not missed.

Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and may be subject to change in the future.

If you'd like to discuss your wider financial planning arrangements, please get in touch.

It was a pleasure to speak at our networking group last week about the work I do with clients and to raise awareness of the inheritance tax changes affecting pensions.

From 6 April 2027, most unused pension funds and pension death benefits will be brought within the scope of inheritance tax. This could have significant implications for some families' estate planning arrangements.

These changes may prompt individuals and families to review their current inheritance tax position and consider whether any action may be appropriate based on their personal circumstances.

📞 If you're concerned about how these changes could affect your family, I'd be happy to discuss your current position and explain the options available.

🤝 If you're a local business owner looking to expand your network, build valuable connections and hear from guest speakers on important topics, we'd love to welcome you to one of our networking meetings. Get in touch to find out more.

Inheritance tax rules and tax treatment depend on individual circumstances and may change in the future.

For many people, the State Pension forms an important part of their retirement income. However, understanding what you may be entitled to and how eligibility works can be confusing.

Taking the time to understand your State Pension entitlement is an important step when planning for retirement and understanding where your future income may come from.

🔍 Understanding today could help you plan more confidently for the future.

One of the easiest financial traps to fall into is lifestyle inflation.

As income increases, spending often increases too.

A better salary can quietly become:
• A more expensive car
• Higher monthly payments
• More subscriptions
• Bigger holidays
• More day-to-day spending

And while there’s nothing wrong with enjoying your money, it’s easy for spending to grow just as quickly as earnings - leaving people wondering why they still don’t feel financially secure.

Higher income doesn’t automatically create financial freedom.

The gap between what you earn and what you keep is often what matters most.

Sometimes the most powerful financial decisions aren’t the flashy ones.

They’re the consistent habits happening quietly in the background:

💰Increasing pension contributions
📈 Building investments gradually
🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒 Keeping lifestyle spending manageable
📝 Reviewing financial goals regularly
🔮 Planning ahead instead of reacting later

Financial success is rarely about looking wealthy.
It’s about building long-term stability, flexibility, and peace of mind.

Your life changes over time - and your financial plan should too.

What matters financially at 25 may look very different at 45 or 65.

That’s why financial planning shouldn’t be something you do once and forget about.

As life changes, so do your priorities:
• Career progression
• Buying a home
• Starting a family
• Business ownership
• Retirement planning
• Supporting children or parents
• Changes in income or lifestyle

Regularly reviewing your finances helps make sure your plans still reflect your goals and circumstances.

Sometimes small adjustments can make a significant difference over the long term.

Financial planning isn’t about predicting the future perfectly.
It’s about staying prepared, adaptable, and focused on what matters most to you.

Because the best plans are the ones that evolve with your life.
