Off for a run this morning need to get my fitness levels up and start being more consistent with actually getting fit rather than just thinking about getting fit.

Seemed like a good opportunity to show a little accountancy/running link to you all. Happy Saturday ☀️

HMRC’s Connect system now pulls data from banks, DVLA, Land Registry, credit agencies, online platforms and more.

If something doesn’t match, it gets flagged — automatically.

Last year alone, HMRC closed 255,000 investigations into small businesses and individuals, recovering £6.3bn in extra tax.

And most of the issues weren’t fraud.

Happy sunny Bank Holiday from all of us at Top Floor Accounting.

Fun fact: the very first UK bank holidays were introduced in 1871 by Sir John Lubbock — not for sunbathing, but to give workers a rare chance to step away from the books, the ledgers, and the long hours. Back then, a “day off” was a luxury.

Today, the principle is the same: pause, reset, and come back sharper.

Last night I made my debut from the bench for the Culcheth Eagles Masters RL against a very tough Rylands Masters Rugby League side.
