We are sad to hear that one of Torbay's favourite characters has passed away.
Rest in peace.

Hi Everyone, I received a call from the doctor at Derriford Hospital, my husband MOSES has passed away, thank you for all the joy you gave him over the years. We have been married for 60 years and its been an adventure, but now he'll have peace from this last few months of trauma placed on both of us. His new adventures begin now..... Sunshine and the open road was all he needed and he'll always be there on the coast road.....

Poverty Politics… But Nobody To Interview?

Beyond belief that they even have to put a post like that out.

A page built around poverty, food banks and hardship surely shouldn’t be struggling to find people connected to those realities. Use anonymised case studies if needed. The stories are hardly in short supply across the UK.

But then again, political rants and endless outrage posts seem to get more attention these days than actual support work.

And by the way… isn’t journalism your son’s university subject?

Just saying.

Worth another look, first posted Aug 2025. Did you know that Bill?

Despite all the chest-beating about how Right to Buy destroyed communities, lined the pockets of the undeserving, and embodied Thatcherite greed, it has surfaced that EW bought her own council house in October 1998. Yes, that’s right. The same policy she has publicly loathed became her personal ticket to property owning bliss.
But don’t stop clapping just yet. The house next door sold for a modest £26,000 in 1997, giving a rough idea of how little these properties were going for. Fast forward to 1999, and our anti-Right-to-Buy crusader pockets a grant - yes, a government-funded grant - of up to £40,000 to add not one, but two extra bedrooms. Because when you're living in a taxpayer-subsidised home you apparently don't believe should be sold off, the only logical thing to do is extend it using more public money.
Then comes the pièce de resistance: in November 2002, the house was sold for a jaw-dropping £217,000. Quite the return on something she supposedly found morally objectionable, wouldn’t you say? And, because timing is everything, it just so happened that she bought her new home in Brixham on the very same day.
So while she’s been out there virtue-signalling about helping others, she’s quietly helped herself to public money, to government grants and to a tidy profit. From council housing to owning a listed building, courtesy of a scheme she supposedly despises. Funny how that works

But acceptance should never mean pretending it never happened.

To Poverty Watch UK, too many lives were damaged, reputations unfairly torn apart, and years of genuine hard work undermined by agendas, accusations and deliberate distortion.

Some wounds fade. Some lessons should not, and will not.

Torbay Council ?

A Devon organisation providing food to families in need has warned it will have to close within weeks unless it gets the funding it needs 🚨

Torbay Council has been accused of dragging its heels over distributing vital cash from the Crisis and Resilience Fund, which has taken over from the Household Support Fund. Both schemes are funded by the government.

The council has just announced details of the fund and how it could be spent, but the Turning Heads community interest company says it is taking too long to get the money where it is needed.

Turning Heads chief executive Alan Tilley said: “This money should have gone in at the end of March. As it stands we will have to close at the end of May.”

Turning Heads runs a social supermarket among a number of projects, selling food and household items at discount prices. Eligible households can sign up for 12 weeks, paying a small fee each week in return for ‘points’ to use for purchases. Funding for the social supermarket comes direct from Torbay Council, with some fundraising on top.

Turning Heads is a member of the Torbay Food Alliance, which is a coalition of local organisations working alongside the council and the NHS to combat food poverty.

Mr Tilley said up to 1,500 local families used the social supermarket, and he was disappointed at the way they were being treated by the council.

Most of the people using the service were working, he said, but could not make ends meet on the Universal Credit payments they received.

When Activism Runs Out, Out Comes the Football Posts

Poverty Watch UK: now accepting applications for honorary Scousers based on football preference and Facebook engagement.

Funny how every week there’s a new identity, new outrage or new cause to latch onto.
Even Liverpool supporters might cringe at this one.

We suspect even Derek Hatton would raise an eyebrow at using Liverpool loyalty as another Facebook prop.

If you spend half your time attacking councillors, residents, planning officers and anyone who questions you, don’t act stunned when people answer back.

Criticism isn’t “hate”. Sometimes it’s just people recognising the same aggressive tone you dish out daily finally coming back the other way.

You can campaign for equality without wrapping every disagreement up as racism or persecution. That tactic gets old quickly.

We would genuinely love to know one thing — just one tangible thing — Poverty Watch UK has personally done to lift someone out of poverty.

Not a meme. Not a vague slogan. Not another politically ill-informed rant blaming everyone else.
An actual measurable outcome.

Because posting orange backgrounds on Facebook isn’t a social policy.
