Today I have various mortgage completions going through for clients, some switching rates on a remortgage due to their old rates finishing, some borrowing money for home improvements or consolidation and a couple moving house.🏡

One of my completions today is a family moving to their forever home with their 3 beautiful children. I've seen them in 3 different houses and watched their family grow since I first met them as a newly married couple. The best part of my job is forming those deep connections, being there through the milestones to guide as life changes. It's an incredible privilege and one I will be forever grateful for.

For all those starting a fresh adventure today, I wish you lots of happiness.🥰

Congratulations to all the runners this year. My ballot entry is in for next year so will keep my fingers crossed 🤞🏻x

Congratulations to our incredible 34 marathon runners who have collectively raised over £125,000 for the SJP Charitable Foundation and some of its key partner charities. 👏

Despite the heat, they powered through towards the finish line. Thanks to their commitment, the monies raised will help to make a positive and lasting difference to people's lives. Thank you!

Markets have reacted sharply to the recent “Liberation Day” tariffs, which have caused significant volatility in major indices. We understand the combination of unsettling headlines and sudden volatility may raise concerns among clients.

Chief Investment Officer Justin Onuekwusi offers perspective:

"While market falls can be difficult to live through, it's important to remember they are a feature of investing. Making reactive selling decisions when markets are volatile can be very challenging as these become market timing decisions. Markets can fall and/or rebound faster than we can participate in them.

“Instead, for investors in already-resilient, well-diversified portfolios, taking little or no action has historically led to better long-term outcomes.”

I hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day today. I spent mine with my own mum, who I am incredibly grateful for always, and with my children on the beach. Such a beautiful day in the sunshine & it almost made me forget about the hours sleep I lost last night 🤣.
I feel fully recharged and ready for another busy week of work starting tomorrow on the run up to the end of the tax year. Lots of last minute ISA allowances being filled.

The recent tariff news wasn’t wholly unexpected, but the scale and initial countries targeted caught markets by surprise.
Tariffs will see costs passed on to consumers, and will impact interest rates decisions.
In times of uncertainty, it’s important not to make short-term decisions.

Joe Wiggins, investment research director at SJP, says this initial volatility spike was a result of investors attempting to understand the potential responses and economic consequences. “Periods of heightened uncertainty and market noise are incredibly challenging for long-term investors often not because of the issue that is the focus of attention but rather our behavioural response to it. When under stress investors have a tendency to make decisions that relieve short-term anxiety often at the expense of their long-run objectives.

“Attempting to make prudent investment decisions related to the recent announcement of US tariffs is fraught with difficulty. Untangling the economic and market consequences of an incredibly complex, and still nascent, situation is extremely unlikely to be a productive activity.”

Global supply chains may be a casualty of the US tariff actions, extending its impact beyond just the directly affected countries. Experts at SJP explore the potential long-term ramifications of the latest in protectionist measures.

After a very busy week of mortgage, pension and investment planning and protection discussions with my clients it's time to reset over the weekend with my children. Yesterday we took a walk by the river in one of our favourite places. The sunshine was a huge bonus. Spring is on the way 🌷🌿🌼x
