A new year brings new rules and 2026 will be a big one for UK business compliance.
Here’s what’s on the horizon:
âś… Making Tax Digital for Income Tax (MTD ITSA)
From April 2026, sole traders and landlords earning over ÂŁ50,000 must keep digital records and file quarterly updates.
âś… Companies House ID Verification
Launched in late 2025 and expanding throughout 2026. Existing directors will need to verify their identity, with further rollouts for corporate directors and partnerships.
âś… Transparency & Register Reforms
Tighter checks on company data and new confirmation statement requirements.
It might sound daunting, but that’s where we come in. We can help you get ready early, stay compliant and understand what really matters for your business.

Scammers ramp up activity during the holidays and that includes targeting small businesses. In fact, UK Finance estimates that up to ÂŁ100 million could be lost to payment fraud in December alone.
Here are a few red flags and tips to keep your finances safe:
🔍 Urgent payment requests (especially outside normal workflow)
📧 Emails with slightly off email addresses or domain typos
⚠️ "Too good to be true" deals or supplier changes at the last minute
📱 Unexpected SMS messages about parcel deliveries or invoices
🌀 Unusual request for “safe-account” transfers

The new Companies House identity verification system went live last month, marking one of the biggest compliance changes for UK businesses in years.
Right now, identity checks are mandatory for:
👤 Newly appointed directors and people with significant control (PSCs)
🏢 New LLP members on joining
If you’re an existing director, PSC or LLP member, you’ll have a 12-month transition period, typically completing verification at or before your next confirmation statement.
✅ What’s next?
In future phases, verification will also apply to:
People who file at Companies House
Limited partnerships
Corporate directors and LLP members
Officers of corporate PSCs
It’s a good time to make sure your company records are up to date and that you understand when your turn to verify will come.

Whether you’ve donated to charity this year or plan to before year-end, it’s worth knowing how your generosity can go even further.
Gift Aid allows charities to claim an extra 25p for every ÂŁ1 donated at no extra cost to you.
And if you’re a business, charitable donations can often be offset against tax, meaning you give more to causes that matter while managing your finances smartly.
It’s the perfect time of year to make an impact for your community and your business.

Today we’re celebrating Small Business Saturday UK, a day dedicated to shining a spotlight on the incredible small businesses that power our communities.
Did you know?

At Every Cloud, small businesses are at the heart of everything we do. We help owners navigate the financial side of running a business, from bookkeeping and payroll to strategic planning, so they can focus on what they do best.
This weekend, show your support: shop local and celebrate the entrepreneurs who keep Britain running.

Yesterday's Autumn Budget included updates that will affect many businesses across the UK. Here's a quick look at some of the key points:
âś… National Living Wage rising to from April 2026
âś… Dividend and savings tax rates are increasing
âś… Permanent Business Rates Relief for eligible retail, hospitality and leisure businesses
âś… New capital allowance from 2026
While there were no major tax rises, many existing thresholds remain frozen so it’s worth reviewing your finances to avoid creeping liabilities.
