Great news from the team at Harling & Kirk Accountants.

Charlie Harris, one of our Accounts Assistants, has just passed his latest Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) exam, another big step towards becoming fully qualified!

Charlie’s worked incredibly hard alongside his day-to-day role, and it’s fantastic to see that effort paying off.

Frank Harling shared:
“Delighted to see Charlie pass his latest exam, it is another step towards him achieving his ACCA qualification and is testament to the hard work he put into the exam and hours of studying!”

Congratulations Charlie!

HMRC have confirmed that employees will no longer be able to claim tax relief for homeworking expenses as from 6 April 2026.

For many employees, this means the end of claiming tax relief of £6 per week (or actual costs), something that has been widely used over recent years.

Employers can still reimburse homeworking expenses in a tax-efficient way, which may shift how support is provided going forward.

This creates an important moment for businesses to:
• Review current homeworking policies
• Consider whether reimbursements should be introduced or adjusted
• Ensure employees understand the latest changes

We’ve broken down exactly what’s changed, what it means, and what employers should be thinking about here:

If you’re unsure how this impacts your business or employees, feel free to speak to Tom for further guidance.

We’re really pleased to have achieved Xero Silver Partner status.

It’s a good reflection of the direction we’ve been taking as a firm, by helping clients move away from spreadsheets and legacy systems, and onto something that gives them clearer, more useful financial information day to day.

As Laura Wakefield from Xero said, “This isn’t just a badge, it reflects how we’re already working and where we’re heading next”.

For us, it’s never just been about year-end accounts. It’s about helping clients stay organised, understand their numbers, and make better decisions throughout the year. And moving more of our clients onto Xero is a big part of that.

The feedback from our clients who have moved across to Xero has been overwhelmingly positive, with the user-friendly nature of the system particularly highlighted.

We’re looking forward to building on this and continuing to develop the way we support our clients.
