We're absorbing the implications for all our clients of yesterday's Budget announcements.

On top of what was announced by the Chancellor in her speech yesterday, there's more detail in the supporting documents released at the same time.

We can't offer a blanket answer to the inevitable question of 'will I pay more tax' - we need to discuss options, possible adjustments and business plans with each of our clients individually, as we come to fully understand the impact of the changes to be brought in.

Our Tax Planning Programme offered to all business clients is an essential tool to allow us to hear what our clients are currently doing in their business and personal lives and what they want to aim to do in the future.

Once we know this, we can advise on the best way forward for each of them, taking into account the various changes to business taxes in particular.

🚗 Are you sure you're reclaiming every business mile owed to you? 🚗

Every time you make a journey in your private car on behalf of your small business, that journey should be logged as a business expense and you should be reimbursed for the travel costs.

But how do you record the mileage reliably?

Some options include:

❌ good ol' pencil and notebook in the car - note down the mileage at the start and end of each journey and do all the manual calculations later

❌ sit at your desk at the end of each month to consult your calendar for the previous month to work out where you must have travelled and add it to your trusty spreadsheet to submit for your expenses reclaim

✅ Use a tried and trusted app on your smartphone (we like MileIQ but there are lots of other similar apps available). It'll record every journey you make and then you simply swipe through to determine which ones are personal and which are personal and produce a useful download of just the business miles for you to use.
