Tiny weddings are definitely my favourite, especially when they’re at home. Lara & Xander are having a big celebration in Portugal in a few weeks time but made their legal declarations with only their closest family present in her parent’s garden but this story began back in May 2018, at the rather glamorous occasion of the Finance Grad Ball at Seamill Hydro…
L. I decided to crash the ball because my friend had a spare seat at her table and even joked that I would come along to see if I could find a nice husband last minute before we finish uni.
X. She sat next to me, and we had a great evening. She even asked me to dance with her for the ceilidh, how inclusive!
L. Supposedly I made the first move. It was a ceilidh after all so it meant I could keep him on track since he was an international student and wouldn’t know any of the moves.
First impressions?
X. Remember her having amazing eyes, which I told her that night. Also for someone who asked me to a ceilidh, she didn’t seem to know the dances!
L. He was not what I expected. For someone that seemed so smart and serious, he was actually really good fun. I was genuinely surprised how fast we clicked and that there was so much chemistry between us. Our first date was when he asked me out for dinner. Apparently he’d provisionally booked 3 restaurants that night so that he could make sure he got the right one.
X. I then went back to Hong Kong for the summer holidays. I told her she should come out, as I had some uni friends visiting too, and she did!
L. I wasn’t going to go because I thought it might be weird since I hardly knew him but then decided to book the flights on a whim.
X. We had a great time exploring Hong Kong and visiting Macau, where I said “I love you” after she won us some money on the roulette table.
L. It was by accident, because I made the right call at the casino table and won him a couple of hundred dollars
X. We then returned to Glasgow where Jane and Scott picked us up from the airport… first time meeting the parents.
L. Xander then moved to London to do his masters, while I was still in Glasgow as I’d finished uni but I visited him every month while I decided what to do with my life.
X. She asked about what her post uni plans should be and did I have any thoughts on her job hunting, so I suggested adding London to her search.
L. I then ended up landing a full-time, permanent job, and invited myself to move in - only 7 months after we started dating
Their day was intimate, special and full of love and laughter. Good luck at the big bash in Porto and huge congratulations Mr & Mrs Ong ❤️
