Who financial advice is really for

There’s a common myth that financial advice is only for people with big balances, complex portfolios or “serious money”.

It isn’t.

Financial advice is for people who want clarity and support with their finances, whatever stage they’re at.

It’s for:

First-time buyers trying to understand their mortgage options
Families wanting to protect their income and loved ones
People with a few pensions who aren’t sure if they’re on track
Those starting to think seriously about retirement

You don’t need hundreds of thousands invested to benefit from advice.

Someone with £50,000 in pensions can need just as much guidance as someone with £500,000 because the questions are often the same:

• Am I doing the right thing?
• Am I missing anything important?
• Will this actually work long term?

I don’t have minimum investment sizes.
I don’t believe in gatekeeping financial advice.

If you need help with:

✔ Mortgages
✔ Protection planning
✔ Pensions & retirement planning
✔ Or simply making sense of your finances

Then financial advice is for you.

If you’d like a no-pressure chat to see if I can help, get in touch or book a free 30-minute consultation.

Because good financial advice isn’t about how much you have, it’s about making the most of what you’ve got.

With the new tax year fast approaching, it’s a good time to get a handle on the allowances that will be in place from 6 April 2026.

With some allowances frozen, fiscal drag is catching more people out.

For those unfamiliar with the term, fiscal drag is what happens when tax thresholds stay the same while incomes gradually rise.

Even if you don’t feel better off, more of your income can be pulled into higher tax bands over time, meaning you pay more tax without tax rates actually increasing.

Understanding this early gives you more options.

What a financial plan really covers 👇

A financial plan isn’t just about picking a pension or an investment and hoping for the best.
It looks at the whole picture:

• Where you are now
• Where you want to get to
• And how to bridge the gap in a realistic way

That includes things like:

✔ Making sure your money is working as hard as it can
✔ Reducing unnecessary tax where possible
✔ Protecting your family if the unexpected happens
✔ Checking you’re actually on track for the lifestyle you want later on

Too many people wing it with their finances and hope it all works out.

The evidence suggests that having a plan makes a real difference.
Research from the International Longevity Centre UK found that people who take regulated financial advice are, on average, £47,000 better off in retirement.

That’s not down to luck. It’s down to clarity, structure, and better decisions over time.

You don’t need to be wealthy to benefit from financial advice.
You just need a plan that fits your life.

If you’re not sure whether you’re on track, let’s talk.

The Scottish Budget has been announced and there are a few key takeaways worth knowing about :-

• The thresholds for both the Basic and Intermediate rates of income tax in Scotland have been increased by 7.4% - meaning many lower and middle earners will pay less income tax

• The Higher, Advanced and Top rate tax thresholds aren’t moving, which means more people will quietly be dragged into paying more tax as incomes rise

• Extra support for families, including an increase to the Scottish Child Payment

• More investment in public services like education

• New taxes aimed at higher-value homes and high-emission travel

Once again, it highlights how Scotland’s tax system continues to diverge from the rest of the UK. Understanding where you sit really matters.

If you’re unsure how changes like this affect your take-home pay, savings, or long-term plans, a quick conversation can make things much clearer.

Be honest, is that something you caught yourself thinking over the festive break when it came to your finances?

If so, you’re not alone. And 2026 is a great time to change that.

In 2026, getting organised isn’t about drastic changes. It’s about clarity, structure, and making smarter decisions going forward.

I help people with:
✔ Mortgages
✔ Protecting their family
✔ Pension consolidation
✔ Saving and investing for the first time

If this post made you pause for a moment, that’s often a sign it’s time to take action.

A simple conversation can make a bigger difference than you might think.

UK mortgage rates are back to pre-mini-Budget levels, which is good news for borrowers.
The average 2-year fixed mortgage rate has fallen to 4.86% and the average 5-year fixed to 4.91% - the lowest levels we’ve seen since September 2022, according to Moneyfactscompare.co.uk

That makes this a potentially good time for:

🔑 First-time buyers looking to lock in repayments before potential future rate rises

🔁 Homeowners coming off fixed deals and thinking of remortgaging

💷 Anyone reviewing their borrowing costs or considering moving home

As rates fall and lenders compete again, we’re seeing more choice in mortgage products, something many haven’t seen in years.

If you’re thinking about buying, remortgaging or reviewing your mortgage, it could pay to get professional advice now, before rates shift again.

Feel free to get in touch to discuss your options.

📢 Important Information: Your home may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments on your mortgage. Mortgage advice should be sought from a qualified professional and individual circumstances will determine suitability.
