Making Tax Digital for Income Tax part 2 💻

What does MTD for IT mean for you?

MTD will require:
🖥️ Digital records to be maintained
🧮 Quarterly summaries of income and expenses to be submitted to HMRC
✅ A final declaration to be submitted at the end of each tax year

These quarterly submissions are not tax bills, but HMRC will use them to build a real-time picture of your tax position.

Making Tax Digital for Income Tax 💻

This week we will be taking a greater look at MTD for IT. First and most important question:

Who does it affect?

Sole Traders and Landlords who had over £50k of income/sales in the tax year 2024-25 ✅
The threshold will then be dropping to £30k from April 2027

On top of HMRC correspondence and discussions we have had previously with our clients we will also be contacting anyone who will have to register for MTD for IT this month with next steps and how we can support you.

Due to continued growth, we are recruiting for an Accounts Assistant to work in our office in Buccleuch Street, Dumfries.

The general duties involved in this role will be:
⭐️ Preparation of accounts for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies.
⭐️ Preparation of VAT returns, taking ownership of your allocated work and ensuring all submission deadlines are met.
⭐️ Support senior staff members with ad hoc tasks, ensuring work is completed to a high standard and within budgeted time.

We are ideally looking for someone with previous experience working in an accountancy practice or a finance related role. However, full training will be provided for the right candidate.

Working as part of a small team in a busy office you will need to be a team player who is willing to assist colleagues as required in various parts of the business. You will also be expected to use your initiative to solve problems and communicate with clients and/or other staff members where issues arise.

The ideal candidate will also have good organisational and time management skills with an excellent attention to detail.

⭐️ Changes at J T Rennie & Co ⭐️

Now that all of our clients have been contacted, we are delighted to confirm some exciting changes within the business.

After 40+ years Mr John T Rennie has retired and we have moved to trading via a limited company.

As part of this change, the new directors and shareholders of the business will be Mr Alexander (Sandy) Rennie, Mr Robert Rennie and Mr Paul Dickson.

It will continue to be the same quality service so clients will see no change to how we deal with them on a day to day basis.
