At last! Spring is in the Air - can you feel it?

Waking up with sunshine streaming through the window gives me such a positive lift that I’m raring to get the office 'Spring Clean' underway!

So, on my ‘To Do’ list today:

🌸 Sprucing up my desk - Everything’s getting a good clean and polish (including the cats if they stand still long enough!)

🌸 Decluttering my Inbox - You know what I mean, deleting all those newsletters you thought would be useful but never get round to reading…

🌸 Filtering the Post-It-Notes - Yes, I still like to jot down useful information for later resulting in a bundle of scraps of paper, so they’ll bet getting transferred into a notebook. I might actually be able to find them when I need them then. Thanks to the lovely suppliers at last week for the notebooks!

🌸 Updating my accounts - Obvs.

🌸 Enjoying the sunshine!

If nothing else, why not get your income and expense records organised? The end of the tax year is rapidly approaching and if you can get your records to your bookkeeper early and organised they will love you!

Wow! Doesn't time fly when you're having fun! 😃

Exactly one year ago we picked up the keys to our new office and looking back so much has changed since then:

• We rebranded and relaunched as Blossom Bookkeeping
• We've taken on Missiga, our first employee
• 10 new clients have joined us
• We’re almost a fully cloud based practice (come on BrightPay - sort out cloud CIS please!)

Who doesn't love a freebie?

But how often are branded goodies discarded almost before an event has finished.

At Accountex this week, Xero offered a choice between the usual mix of water-bottles, mugs, etc. OR to opt for seeds for your garden and a tree to be planted.

Of course, as Blossom Bookkeeping I had to pick the seeds.

Best merchandise of the event - nice work Xero 👏 👌 🙌

Great couple of days spent at Accountex 2024, catching up with friends and hearing from some really interesting speakers.

Highlights were sessions from Ashley Leeds (thanks for the book Ashley!) and Nic Hamilton (Lewis's younger and better-looking brother) 🏎

🌸 As a bookkeeper, I love everything to be neat and organised, whether it's my garden, home or business. (Big fan of Stacey Solomon and Marie Kondo!)

🌸 My ideal garden is a Japanese Zen garden, a haven of peace and tranquillity, beautifully designed and perfectly ordered.

🌸 However, over time as things grow, nature takes over and before you know it you've got a jungle instead.

🌸 You need to step in and take back control.

🌸 The same can happen with your business, as your client base grows if you don't have systems in place you're neat little garden can soon become an admin jungle!

🌸 How do you keep your business on track? 🌸

The answer is an Accountability Buddy.

It’s so easy to get caught up in the day-to-day running of your business that you forget to reflect on what you’ve achieved and to act on all those idea’s you’ve had for future development.

BUT, if you have a buddy to hold you accountable you’re far more likely to acknowledge your wins and keep up the momentum to move forward.

Whether she knows it or not, Daniela at L&Co. is my accountability buddy.

Every month I visit her to get my nails done, and as I started thinking about rebranding my business last year I began chatting to her about my plans. 💅🏻

Now, each visit I update her with the progress I’ve made and what’s coming next.

Not only does it keep me focused on my progress, but it’s inspired Daniela to reflect on her own business, so now I can keep her accountable too. It’s a win/win situation.

I’m looking forward to the new treatments she’ll be able to offer when she’s completed the extra training she now has planned!

Being held accountable is so valuable - plus my nails look fab! 💅🏻

What do you need to gather ready for your tax return?

• If employed - P60, P11D, P45

• Self-employed or Partnership - books and records for the period 6/4/23 - 5/4/24

• Pension income - P60

• Details of Bank Interest

• Tax Certificates for any Dividends received.

• Details of income from Land and Property

By completing your tax return early:

a) you'll know how much your tax bill will be and have time to save up for it

or,

b) if you're due a refund you can get it paid back to you sooner
