Did you know that once a lasting power of attorney (LPA) is registered, you can use it online. This means you don’t need to show the paper document, making it quicker and easier to manage.

If you’re an attorney or the donor, you can use the online service to:
- let companies or organisations view a one page summary of an LPA
- view a one page summary of an LPA yourself
- keep track of who has been given access to an LPA
- see how people named on an LPA are using the service
- ask for an activation key if you have not been given one
- replace your activation key if yours is lost or expired

15/05/2025

Bookings for May and June are now fully booked. If you would like to discuss your Power of Attorney needs, get in touch.

As always there is a no pressure promise and we will come to you for ease and comfort.

Re-opening April appointments after a busy March. It’s been wonderful hearing so many wonderful outcomes and how easy the process has been.

Many clients have made mistakes doing their own, but at Burnley POA we guarantee we will get it right and if we don’t we pay for any corrections.

Remember:

✍️ Why can’t I change or amend a lasting power of attorney (LPA) if I find a mistake?

If you find an error after the donor has signed the document, it cannot be changed. However, if you make a mistake before you’ve signed the LPA you can correct it.

An error cannot be changed after the donor has signed the document. This is because when the donor signs the document, they are saying everything on it is accurate and true at the time of signing.

If you change anything in the LPA after this, it will make the LPA invalid.

If you notice and error which you need to fix, you will need to start again as you’ve confirmed the document is final.

Our February appointments are now closed. Still some availability for March bookings. Enquire within.

There are two different types of lasting power of attorney (LPA)

💳🏠 Finance and property
A finance and property LPA gives someone you trust the power to make decisions about your money and property. For example:
- paying bills
- managing a bank or building society
- collecting benefits or a pension
- selling your home

These powers can be used at any time, but only when you have specified it’s okay to do so.

🚑 ❤️ Health and welfare
A health and welfare LPA gives someone you trust the power to make decisions on your behalf about your health and welfare. For example:
- your daily routine like washing, dressing and eating
- medical care
- moving into a care home
- life-sustaining treatment

There are two types of lasting power of attorney (LPA). Here we take a look at what a health and welfare LPA is and what it is used for.

You can use this LPA to give an attorney the power to make decisions about things like:
- your daily routine, for example washing, dressing, eating
- medical care
- moving into a care home
- life-sustaining treatment

It can only be used when you’re unable to make your own decisions.

As an attorney or deputy acting on behalf of a loved one occasions like Christmas and Hanukkah can raise questions about giving gifts and presents.

Gifts can be given on festive occasions, as well as life events such as births or weddings, as long as the gift meets certain criteria.

It’s not compulsory for you to give gifts. If you do, it should always be done with the person’s best interests in mind.

What is a gift?
A gift is when an attorney or deputy moves ownership of money, property or possessions from the person to themselves or other people, without full payment in return.

Find more information on gift giving as an attorney or deputy in our blog:
