☕ Mid-June reminder for freelancers & business owners…

Before summer gets busy, now’s a good time to check in on:
✔ Upcoming VAT deadlines
✔ PAYE submissions
✔ Cash flow
✔ Outstanding invoices
✔ Tax savings for later in the year

It’s easy to put finances to one side when business is busy but staying organised now can save a lot of stress later 👌

And if you’re feeling overwhelmed trying to manage everything yourself, that’s exactly where having the right accountant can help.

Are you freelancing in Medical Communications, Pharma or Agency life and feeling overwhelmed by IR35, contracts or the financial side of freelancing? 🤯

You’re definitely not alone.

With over 20 years of in-house MedComms and agency experience, I understand the unique challenges freelancers and directors in this industry face from navigating contracts and IR35 concerns to managing tax, accounting and day-to-day business pressures.

Freelancing can offer incredible flexibility and opportunities, but it can also feel isolating and confusing when you’re trying to manage everything yourself.

That’s where the right support can make a huge difference 🤝

I help freelancers and contractors feel more confident, organised and supported when it comes to:
✔ IR35 guidance
✔ Contracts & invoicing
✔ Tax & accounting support
✔ Limited company setup
✔ Freelance business advice
✔ Ongoing financial support

If you’re looking for someone who genuinely understands both the industry and the realities of freelance life, I’d love to help make things feel a little easier.

Thinking about working with an accountant? Here’s what it looks like working with me 👇

For me, accounting is about much more than filing accounts once a year and disappearing until the next deadline.

The real value comes from having ongoing support, someone you can check in with throughout the year, ask questions to and rely on when making important financial decisions for your business.

That’s why I work with clients on a monthly retainer basis.

It means you have access to advice, guidance and support whenever you need it, not just at year-end.

We’ll also work proactively on tax planning during the year, helping you stay organised and avoid unexpected surprises when filing deadlines come around.

I’ve built my business this way because I know how valuable consistent support can be both for my clients and for the long-term success of their businesses.

Taking time away from your business can feel scary when it’s just you running everything.

For many freelancers and self-employed business owners, even taking a few days off can bring worries like:
“What if I miss something important?”
“What if work slows down?”
“Can I actually afford to switch off?”

But taking a break is important and with the right planning, you can step away while still staying in control.

Here are 5 simple tips 👇

✏️ Get ahead of deadlines
Try to review upcoming invoices, tax dates and client deadlines before your break so nothing catches you off guard while you’re away.

✏️ Set boundaries early
Let clients know your availability in advance and set an out-of-office response. Most people respect clear communication.

✏️ Automate where you can
Scheduling invoices, payments and emails ahead of time can remove a huge amount of stress.

✏️ Keep your finances organised
Having clear visibility of cash flow before taking time off gives you much more confidence to properly switch off.

✏️ Remember your business needs you at your best
Burnout helps nobody, rest is productive too.

Being self-employed shouldn’t mean feeling unable to ever take a break 💛

🚘 Good news for anyone claiming business mileage...

On 21 May 2026, the government announced an increase to approved mileage rates for cars and vans from the 2026/27 tax year.

The new rates from 6th April 2026 will be:

✔ First 10,000 business miles – 55p per mile
✔ Over 10,000 business miles – 25p per mile

If you claim business mileage, this allowance is designed to cover other vehicle related costs too, including:
🔧 Repairs & maintenance
🛡 Insurance
📄 Road tax

These cannot usually be claimed separately alongside mileage claims.

📌 Remember - your business mileage should always be recorded accurately and kept in a format that can be inspected by HMRC.

If you’re unsure about how to record mileage correctly or what you can claim, please ask - I'm always happy to help 😊

Time to grab a coffee ☕ and finally make a plan for your accounts…

You’ve probably been putting it off telling yourself “I’ll sort it later” or “I can do this myself.”

And yes, you can… but that doesn’t always mean you should.

Because here’s what I see time and time again:

Without accounting support, it’s easy to:
• Miss out on tax savings
• Feel unsure about your numbers
• Leave things until the last minute
• Make decisions based on guesswork

Working with me isn’t just about getting your accounts done, it’s about:

✔ Having clarity on your finances
✔ Knowing exactly what you owe and when
✔ Making smarter decisions with your money
✔ Feeling calm, organised and in control

Small changes, done properly, can make a huge difference.

So instead of putting it off again… let’s make a plan.

If you still need to complete your 2025–2026 Self Assessment tax return, you can submit it now - no need to wait until the January deadline.

Getting it sorted early can make life much easier 👇

✏️ Get any tax refund sooner
If HMRC owes you money, submitting early means you could receive your refund much quicker.

✏️ Know exactly what you owe
Planning ahead helps avoid surprises before the 31 January 2027 payment deadline. You can even spread the cost with HMRC’s Budget Payment Plan.

✏️ Avoid the January panic
No last-minute stress, missing paperwork, or scrambling to meet deadlines after Christmas.

✏️ Useful proof of income
A completed tax return can help support mortgage, loan, rental or benefit applications.

Remember - submitting early does not mean paying early.
You’ll still have until 31 January 2027 to pay your 2025–2026 tax bill.

If you’re a freelancer, sole trader or self-employed and want help getting your tax return sorted early, I'm here to help 👍

Be honest… do you actually know your monthly profit? 👀

Not your income.
Not what’s in your bank.
Your actual profit.

Because this is where so many business owners get caught out…

Money coming in doesn’t mean money being kept.

If you don’t know your numbers, it’s easy to:
• Overspend without realising
• Underpay yourself
• Get hit with unexpected tax bills
• Feel like you’re working hard but not getting ahead

Knowing your profit = having control.

It doesn’t need to be complicated - just consistent.

So… do you know yours? 💬
