Why do people think getting paid in cash means there’s no trail?

Cash is not a ghost. It still leaves muddy little bootprints everywhere.

I just watched someone post online looking for “cash jobs,” and my tax brain immediately went:

Friend… you just made the trail yourself.

Cash is not invisible when you advertise it on Facebook.

There may not be a debit receipt, but there can still be screenshots, messages, booking details, photos, comments, customer records, bank deposits, supplier records, inventory purchases, and all the little digital breadcrumbs people forget about.

And here’s the part people really forget:

Cash income is still income.

CRA does not need one perfect receipt wrapped in a bow. They can look at patterns. Deposits, spending, materials, customer records, business activity… it all tells a story.

Paying cash might feel private in the moment, but business activity creates records all around it.

The internet is not a secret filing cabinet. It is more like yelling into a room full of people holding printers.

Cash may skip the front door, but CRA can still find the footprints in the garden.

Tax season is officially wrapped up.
I just want to say thank you.
