A few years ago, when I became licensed as a financial advisor in Ontario, one of the first things I did was take out a $500,000 life insurance policy on myself. It was with Foresters Financial, a company I’m proud to be contracted with—not just because of the quality coverage, but because they’re a fraternal organization that gives back.
Twice a year, Foresters offers their members a $200 community grant to support local charities. For the past couple of years, I’ve been applying for these grants (it takes me five minutes now—I just resubmit my old application) and using the funds to purchase food and supplies for the Good Shepherd in Hamilton.
When you think about it, this small act of giving back effectively covers about four months of my insurance premiums each year. It’s a reminder that when you build your financial future with the right partners, you can also uplift your community at the same time.
I used to struggle with the idea of sharing good deeds—shouldn’t they be done quietly? But I also believe in shining a light on programs that make a real difference. If more people knew about options like this, maybe they’d feel empowered to protect their families and support their communities too.
If you’re curious about how insurance or investment solutions can work for you—or how you can be part of something meaningful—I’m always here to chat.
