Yep. 👏

Because we need transport for pretty much everything in life.

Your food at the supermarket? Transport.
Your new sneakers? Transport.
The fuel in your car? Transport.
The materials that build your house? Transport.
The phone in your hand? Yep… transport. 📱🚛

It’s one of those industries you don’t always think about — until you realise it’s behind almost everything we do.

And that means there are A LOT of careers in it.

Sometimes one session is all it takes to make you see things a little differently. 👀

A different career.
A different pathway.
A different idea of what your future could look like.

That’s exactly why we do what we do.

Because students can’t be what they can’t see — and sometimes, seeing what’s possible is the first step towards believing you can do it too. 🚛⚙️

🚛 Careers in Gear | Stop 3: National Heavy Vehicle Regulator

Our final stop for the day was with the NHVR, bringing together an important side of the transport industry — road safety and compliance.

Students explored the key messages behind the Don’t Muck With A Truck campaign and learned why safe following distances, stopping and turning safely and understanding the impact of heavy vehicles are so important on our roads.

They then got up close with a roadside inspection vehicle and the equipment used by NHVR officers, giving them a real insight into the people and processes that help keep Australia’s roads safe.
A valuable way to finish an incredible day — giving students a broader understanding of the transport industry and the many different careers that help keep it moving.

A huge thank you to Andrew Gill for his ongoing commitment to Careers in Gear and for giving students his time, knowledge and genuine access to the real world of compliance.

🚛 Careers in Gear | Stop 2: Official Followmont Transport Pty Ltd

Next stop — Followmont, where students got to see how the freight network connects their remote communities with the rest of Australia.

From climbing into a prime mover to exploring truck combinations and the many roles involved in getting freight moving, students got a real feel for what a career in transport can look like.

For students seeing that connection between their communities and the wider transport network was a powerful part of the day.
Sometimes you just need to see it to realise you could be part of it.

Thank you to Thomas, Followmont’s Branch Manager for his time, knowledge and passion.

🚛 Careers in Gear | Stop 1: Brown and Hurley

What a successful afternoon at Brown and Hurley, kicking off our Careers in Gear tour.
Students were taken behind the scenes through the workshop, warehouse, parts and sales, getting a real look at the many career pathways within the transport industry.

From brand-new trucks preparing to hit the road, to rebuilds getting a second chance at life, students got to see the industry up close and discover just how many pathways exist beyond the driver’s seat.

A huge thank you to Dealer Principal, James Meakin, for hosting our students, sharing his knowledge and generously providing lunch. We really appreciate you partnering with us to show the next generation what’s possible in transport.

From Brown and Hurley, to Followmont and the NHVR, students got behind the scenes, hands-on and up close with the people and pathways that keep our industry moving.

Most importantly, they walked away seeing what’s possible for them in transport. 💚

🚚✨ Now THIS is how you get kids excited about trucks!

What a fantastic day at the Brown & Hurley 80th Anniversary Show n Shine! 🎉

One of our favourite things about the day was seeing so many kids out enjoying the trucks. From little truck enthusiasts to teenagers getting a closer look at the machines that keep our communities moving, there were plenty of curious minds wandering between the rows of shiny chrome and serious horsepower. 👀🚛

And there were trucks EVERYWHERE! 😍

It was such a great opportunity for the community to get up close and personal with the transport industry.
For us at Careers In Gear, this is what it’s all about.

Sometimes a career starts with something as simple as a kid standing beside a big truck thinking:

“I want to drive that one day.” ❤️

A massive congratulations to Brown & Hurley on 80 years, and thank you for putting on an event that gave the community a chance to see, touch and experience the industry we’re so passionate about.

You never know where one truck, one conversation or one day at a Show n Shine might take someone. 🚚✨
