👟 CAN YOU CLAIM IT? – ANSWER

The answer is... 🤔 It depends!

If your shoes are protective footwear—such as steel-capped boots or non-slip shoes required for your job—they're generally deductible.

However, if they're ordinary black shoes, dress shoes or runners that could be worn outside of work, they're usually considered a private expense, even if your employer requires them.

This one catches a lot of people out!

The answer is... ❤️ No.

Haircuts, hair colouring and general grooming are considered private expenses by the ATO—even if your employer expects you to look professional.

☕ **CAN YOU CLAIM IT? – ANSWER**

The correct answer is... ❤️ **No.**

Your daily coffee on the way to work is considered a **private expense**, even if you need it to get through the day! ☕

The ATO considers food and drink purchased for your own consumption to be a personal living expense, not a work-related deduction.

💬 **Let's Settle This...**

What's the **strangest tax deduction** you've ever heard someone claim?

I'll start...

Over the years, I've heard people ask about claiming everything from their family pet to coffee, everyday clothes, weddings, holidays and even haircuts! 😅

Some deductions are perfectly legitimate...
Others are definitely myths!

👇 Tell me the weirdest deduction you've heard of in the comments.

Who knows... it might even feature in my next "Can You Claim It?" post!

📢 **Federal Budget 2026–27: Proposed Tax Changes You Should Know**

The Federal Budget included some of the biggest proposed tax reforms we've seen in years. Here's a quick snapshot of the key changes that could affect many Australians:

🏠 **Negative Gearing** – Proposed changes would limit negative gearing concessions for future purchases of established residential investment properties, while new builds would continue to receive concessions. Existing investment properties are proposed to be grandfathered.

📈 **Capital Gains Tax (CGT)** – The Government has proposed replacing the current 50% CGT discount with an inflation-based method and a minimum 30% tax on capital gains for many future investments from 1 July 2027.

🏢 **Discretionary Trusts** – A proposed minimum tax rate of 30% on discretionary trust income from 1 July 2028 could significantly change how many family businesses and investment structures operate.

💼 **Self-Managed Super Funds (SMSFs)** – While the proposed CGT reforms generally won't apply to super funds (including SMSFs), the Budget also announced a proposed ban on SMSFs borrowing to purchase residential property.

💰 **Personal Income Tax** – Further personal income tax cuts have also been announced, providing additional relief for many Australian taxpayers.

These proposals have the potential to impact investors, business owners, property owners and anyone considering how to structure their affairs in the future.

⚠️ **Please note:** These are **Budget announcements only**. Most of these measures still need to pass through Parliament before they become law, and the final details may change.

If you're wondering how these proposed changes could affect you, now is a great time to start the conversation.
