What is the point of running a business if the system keeps making it harder?.

Jacob and Cat unpack why more business owners are asking that question.

When most job growth starts coming from the public sector instead of the private sector, it raises a serious red flag for the economy.

A strong public sector needs a healthy private sector behind it.

Businesses create jobs, take risks, pay tax, drive productivity and keep the country moving.

If Australia wants long term growth, it needs to back the people building businesses, hiring staff and taking the risk.

When governments say one thing before an election and then change direction after, the damage is bigger than politics.

Business owners, investors and families make decisions based on the rules they think they can rely on.

Construction businesses already deal with brutal cash flow.

You do the work now, pay wages now, pay suppliers now, but sometimes wait 60, 90 or even 120 days to actually get paid.

With Payday Super coming in, that pressure could get even worse.

The issue is not that business owners do not want to pay super. Many are already doing the right thing. The issue is timing.

If super needs to be paid weekly or fortnightly, but the business is still waiting months for invoices to be paid, the cash flow gap becomes very real.

For tradies, builders and construction businesses, this change could make compliance much harder.

Are more taxes on the way for Australians?

Right now, Australia doesn’t have an inheritance tax, but the fact that politicians are even talking about it is enough to raise serious alarm bells.

Instead of finding new ways to tax everyday families on wealth they've already worked hard to build, why aren't we fixing what’s already broken?

I had the opportunity to attend and present at the Accounting & Business Expo today.

Great event all round. Sat in on some quality presentations, spoke with a range of businesses, and got a look at some of the new tech coming into the space.

If you didn’t get the chance to attend or catch my presentation, here’s the biggest takeaway.

Being an accountant, a sole operator, or running a small business can feel isolating at times.

You’re making decisions on your own, carrying responsibility, and just getting on with it.

That’s why collaboration matters.

Events like this remind you that you’re not alone. There are people in the same position, facing similar challenges, and open to sharing ideas and learning from each other.

I haven’t felt that isolation in a long time, and a big part of that is getting in rooms like this.

New conversations. New relationships. Catching up with familiar faces.

That’s where the real value is.

If you’ve been thinking about attending something like this, take it as your sign.

Get in the room.
