Do I need to keep my receipts, or is a bank statement enough?'

Bank statements alone don’t show the full story. Make sure to keep your receipts as well, so you have enough evidence for your claims 🧾

📂 What is Organising and Maintaining Financial Records?

This is all about keeping your business paperwork and financial information structured, up to date, and easy to access when you need it.

This can include:
✔️ Sorting and filing receipts and invoices
✔️ Storing records in digital folders or bookkeeping systems
✔️ Ensuring documents are complete and not missing information
✔️ Keeping financial data organised for reporting and review

Good record organisation means less stress when it comes time for BAS, tax time, or any financial checks.

It also makes it easier for you, your bookkeeper, and your accountant to quickly find what’s needed without delays or confusion.

Organised records = faster, clearer decision-making ✔️

If your paperwork is piling up or scattered, I can help bring structure to it all 💬

💰 What is Payroll Processing?

Payroll involves more than just paying your team—it’s about ensuring wages and records are calculated and prepared accurately.

This can include:
✔️ Calculating employee wages, salaries, and entitlements
✔️ Preparing payslips for employees
✔️ Recording payroll transactions in your bookkeeping system
✔️ Managing superannuation calculations and tracking

It’s important to note that some payroll-related reporting and submissions (such as STP reporting) may need to be completed by a registered BAS Agent or accountant with the Tax Practitioners Board.

As a bookkeeper, my role is to keep your payroll records accurate, organised, and ready for your BAS Agent or accountant to process and lodge where required.

Accurate payroll records = fewer headaches at tax time ✔️

If payroll feels overwhelming or time-consuming, I can help keep the behind-the-scenes work in order 💬

💼 What are Accounts Payable & Receivable?

This is all about tracking the money coming in and going out of your business.

Accounts Receivable (money coming in):
✔️ Creating and sending invoices
✔️ Tracking who owes you money
✔️ Following up on outstanding payments

Accounts Payable (money going out):
✔️ Recording bills and expenses
✔️ Managing supplier payments
✔️ Keeping on top of due dates

Staying on top of both helps maintain healthy cash flow and avoids missed payments or overdue invoices.

Know what’s owed to you—and what you owe ✔️

If managing invoices and bills is becoming a hassle, I can help keep everything running smoothly 💬

💭 What do you find hardest about your bookkeeping?

For some, it’s the data entry—keeping everything organised and up to date.
For others, it’s reconciling accounts—making sure every dollar lines up.

And sometimes… it’s just finding the time to stay on top of it all.

The truth is, bookkeeping isn’t one-size-fits-all. What feels simple to one business owner can feel overwhelming to another—and that’s completely normal.

You don’t have to do it all alone.
If you’re stuck, behind, or just want peace of mind, I’m here to help 💬

🔍 What is Account Reconciliation?

Reconciliation is the process of making sure your records match your bank accounts—down to the last dollar.

This includes:
✔️ Comparing your bookkeeping records to bank statements
✔️ Identifying missing or duplicate transactions
✔️ Checking for errors or inconsistencies
✔️ Ensuring all balances are accurate and up to date

It’s how we confirm that what’s recorded in your books is correct—not just entered.

Regular reconciliations help catch mistakes early, prevent bigger issues later, and give you confidence in your numbers.

If it doesn’t reconcile, it needs attention ✔️

If reconciling feels confusing or time-consuming, I can take that off your plate 💬

Hi everyone 👋

I’m sharing an update that my bookkeeping services under TeJay the Number Whisperer are now fully structured and open for a small number of additional clients.

I’ve been working in bookkeeping since September 2023, supporting real client files and building practical experience alongside ongoing study in accounting and bookkeeping.

I currently work with a small number of clients and have limited capacity available for a couple more, depending on their needs.

My focus is on providing clear, organised bookkeeping support so business owners can stay on top of their finances without the stress of day-to-day admin.

Services include:
• Transaction recording and categorisation
• Bank reconciliations
• Invoice and expense management
• Accounts payable and receivable support
• Basic financial reporting (data only)
• Bookkeeping system setup and clean-up (MYOB, Xero, QuickBooks, spreadsheets)

I work with non-GST registered businesses and do not provide BAS, tax, or payroll services.

My website and contact details are now live for anyone who would like to reach out or learn more.

Feel free to message me if you’d like to chat about whether I’m the right fit for your business—no pressure at all.

Thanks for following along 💜

📊 What is Data Entry in Bookkeeping?

Data entry is the foundation of bookkeeping.
It includes:
✔️ Recording income and expenses
✔️ Entering transactions into your system
✔️ Assigning correct categories
✔️ Keeping records up to date

Why it matters:
Accurate data entry ensures your reports reflect real business activity ✔️
Good data in = good reporting out

The Australian Taxation Office requires you to keep business records for at least 5 years from the date of the transaction.

That applies even if you close or sell your business—records must still be retained in case of an audit.

So how do you keep everything safe and accessible?
📷 Snap a photo or scan your documents
💻 Store them securely on your computer or cloud system

Going digital makes it easier for you—and your bookkeeper, accountant, or BAS/Tax Agent—to keep accurate records and lodge reports on time and with confidence.

📊 What can a Bookkeeper do (without being a BAS Agent)?

You might be surprised how much support a bookkeeper can provide.
✔️ Data entry and transaction recording
✔️ Bank and account reconciliations
✔️ Accounts payable and receivable
✔️ Payroll processing and record keeping
✔️ Organising financial records
✔️ Preparing reports for your accountant or BAS/Tax Agent

Some payroll reporting and lodgement tasks may be completed by a registered BAS Agent or accountant with the Tax Practitioners Board.

A bookkeeper focuses on keeping your records accurate, organised, and up to date ✔️

👋 MEET YOUR BOOKKEEPER

I help small businesses turn messy, overwhelming numbers into clear, calm, and manageable books.

Because your numbers shouldn’t feel stressful—they should give you clarity and confidence in your business.

💜 A little about me:

✔ I’m a bookkeeper, a mum, and someone who understands what it’s like to juggle a lot at once
✔ I’ve always had a passion for numbers and bringing order to chaos
✔ I’ve been supporting business finances in different ways since I was a teenager
✔ I officially stepped into bookkeeping professionally in 2023 and am currently furthering my studies in bookkeeping and accounting

✨ What matters to me:

I know what it’s like to be time-poor, stretched thin, and trying to keep everything together.

That’s why I believe bookkeeping should feel:

✔ simple
✔ supportive
✔ and never overwhelming

I work from home so I can balance life and work—and I bring that same understanding into the way I support my clients.

Let’s make your numbers work for you, not against you.

📩 If your books need clarity, structure, or just someone to help make sense of it all—I’m here to help.
