1. Fixed Late Filing Penalty
• AED 1,000 for the first missed return.
• AED 2,000 for each subsequent missed return within 24 months.
2. Daily Interest (Administrative Penalty)
• Interest is calculated on any unpaid VAT amount:
• 2% immediately once the payment is late.
• 4% monthly on the remaining balance (capped at 300%).
3. Blacklisting / Audit Risk
• The FTA (Federal Tax Authority) may classify your account as non-compliant.
• They may initiate a tax audit, or freeze refunds if you’re eligible.
• You may also lose your VAT registration forcibly if you’re not conducting taxable activities.
4. Legal Action
• In extreme cases, persistent failure to comply can lead to legal proceedings or further enforcement actions (like business license suspension or travel bans).

1. File All Pending VAT Returns Immediately
• Even if your sales are zero, file a zero return. Not filing is a violation even if no tax is due.
2. Pay Any Due Penalties
• Log in to your FTA e-Services Portal to see the outstanding penalties and pay them promptly.
3. Check if You Still Need VAT Registration
• If your taxable turnover in the past 12 months is below AED 187,500 (for voluntary registration) or AED 375,000 (for mandatory registration), you may be able to apply for VAT deregistration.
• Failing to deregister can also lead to penalties (AED 10,000).
4. Maintain Records
• Ensure you keep invoices, books of accounts, and bank records ready in case of an audit.
